Name: “Escalante”               Age: 6         Color: Black

Escalante is a pure El Rito stallion who was adopted by a friend of Monero Mustangs who is in the Army Reserves.  He was called up in early February and shipped out to Iraq. Our friend brought Escalante to us to use and take care of until he returns. Escalante is a beautiful black with a white star.

Name: “Katzman Dancer”        Age: 16        Color: Blue Corn Stallion

Katzman was captured out of El Rito 10 years ago. Sandi adopted him in a Forest Service lottery. He was a dominant stallion with his own herd. Right from the beginning he was extremely easy to get along with, and bonded with Sandi. He was exhibited at Los Golondrinas in Santa Fe, and was ridden in the Santa Fe Fiesta Parade after only one month of training.  He was also exhibited at the Horse of the Americas annual meeting a few years back, and was accepted into that registry. He started the Monero Mustangs project, and is our herd’s foundation stallion.

Name: “Gavilan”                  Age: 9        Color: White

Gavilan is Katzman’s first foal at Monero Mustangs. He was a very gangly boy and he was about 3 years old when he finally came together and fulfilled his potential. He went to California and spent three years at Return to Freedom as an exhibit horse. Then he came back to New Mexico, and his place at Monero Mustangs, as one of our main stallions. His mother, “Cat Dancing”, is still on the ranch. She is a little Navajo mare from the Red Mesa area. Gavilan’s full sister, “Solarosa”, also lives on the ranch. Another of her brothers was purchased from us to stand as a stud in south central New Mexico.

Name: “Tanema”        Age: 7        Color: Dun

Tanema was a donation to Monero Mustangs.  We could not find out much of his background.  We were told his parents came from Nebraska, though he was born in Wyoming. He has great looks, curly hair on parts of his body, and is gaited. He is also the gentlest stallion we have ever seen. He will allow kids to spend hours brushing and petting him, even braiding his tail and mane.

Name: “Chollo”       Age: 3           Color:  Liver Chestnut with flaxen mane and tail

Chollo is Katzman’s youngest son and his mother is “Pluma”, a beautiful little palomino Navajo mare. His sisters, “Paloma”, “Clarisse”, and “Ristra” and mom Pluma, form a small family group within the main herd. Chollo is barely three years old, and is already a father. He is the father of “Valentina” our newest addition. We call him our little “gangsta”, and he shows signs of being a very major part of our breeding program. What a beauty he is!
