ABOUT THE FOUNDER
SANDRA CLAYPOOL Sandra became interested in mustangs when her family became owners of the last wild horses in the U.S. Virgin Islands. She was impressed by the horse’s intelligence, dignity and beauty. Her dream was born. After moving to northern New Mexico, she obtained two horses from a wild herd on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation, and later, a mare from the Navajo Nation. She adopted a six year old stallion captured from the wild in the Carson Nat’l Forest, then two mares from the same area. Again over the next couple of years, three more mares from the same area. Monero Mustangs now has a foundation herd that meets the standards. She uses her Spanish horses to educate the public about the history of the horse in our country, and the need to preserve and protect the last surviving relics of Spanish, Native American, and Anglo cultures. Sandra and her group of volunteers display her horses in period tack and themselves in corresponding dress, to present to the public authentic historical fact and data. |
